mkw3000 series dc/dc converter 20w 18, sin sin road, an-ping industrial district, tainan 7 02, taiwan tel: 886-6-2923150 fax: 886-6-2923149 e-mail: sales@minmax.com.tw 2012/08/28 rev:4 page 5 of 5 ? minmax technology co., ltd. test setup input reflectedripple current test setup input reflectedripple current is measured with a i nductor lin (4. 7 h) and cin (220uf, esr < 1.0 at 100 khz) to simul ate source impedance. capacitor cin, offsets possible battery impedance. current ripple is measured at the input terminals of the module, measurement bandwidth is 0500 khz. +out -out +vin -vin dc / dc converter load battery + lin + cin to oscilloscope current probe peaktopeak output noise measurement test use a cout 1.0f ceramic capacitor. scope measureme nt should be made by using a bnc socket, measuremen t bandwidth is 020 mhz. position the load between 50 mm and 75 mm from the dc/dc converter. +out -out +vin -vin single output dc / dc converter resistive load scope copper strip cout copper strip +out -out +vin -vin dual output dc / dc converter resistive load scope copper strip cout com. scope cout copper strip copper strip technical notes remote on/off positive logic remote on/off turns the module on du ring a logic high voltage on the remote on/off pin, and off during a logic low. to turn the power modu le on and off, the user must supply a switch to control the voltag e between the on/off terminal and the vin terminal . the switch can be an open collector or equivalent . a logic low is 0v to 1.0v. a logic high is 2.5v to 100v. the maximum sink current at on/off terminal during a logic low is 100 a. the maximum allowabl e leakage current of the switch at on/off terminal (2.5 to 10 0v) is 5a. overcurrent protection to provide protection in a fault (output overload) condition, the unit is equipped with internal curre nt limiting circuitry and can endure current limiti ng for an unlimited duration. at the point of currentlimit inception, the unit shifts from voltage control to current con trol. the unit operates normally once the output cu rrent is brought back into its specified range. overvoltage protection the output overvoltage clamp consists of control ci rcuitry, which is independent of the primary regula tion loop, that monitors the voltage on the output terminals. the control loop of the clamp has a higher voltage set point than the primary loop. this provides a r edundant voltage control that reduces the risk of o utput overvoltage. the ovp level can be found in the out put data . input source impedance the power module should be connected to a low acim pedance input source. highly inductive source imped ances can affect the stability of the power module. in applications where power is supplied over long l ines and output loading is high, it may be necessar y to use a capacitor at the input to ensure startup . capacitor mounted close to the power module helps e nsure stability of the unit, it is recommended to u se a good quality low equivalent series resistance (esr < 1.0 at 100 khz) capacitor of a 22f for the 12v in put devices and a 6.8f for the 24v and 48v devices . + +out -out +vin -vin dc / dc converter load dc power source + - cin output ripple reduction a good quality low esr capacitor placed as close as practicable across the load will give the best rip ple and noise performance. to reduce output ripple, it is recommended to use 4.7f capacitors at the output. +out -out +vin -vin load dc power source + - cout single output dc / dc converter +out -out +vin -vin load dc power source + - cout com. dual output dc / dc converter load cout maximum capacitive load the mkw3000 series has limitation of maximum connec ted capacitance at the output. the power module may be operated in current limiting mode during start up, affecting the rampup and the startup time. for op timum performance we recommend 270f maximum capaci tive load for dual outputs, 680f capacitive load f or 12v & 15v outputs and 6800f capacitive load for 3. 3v & 5v outputs. the maximum capacitance can be fou nd in the data sheet. thermal considerations many conditions affect the thermal performance of t he power module, such as orientation, airflow over the module and board spacing. to avoid exceeding th e maximum temperature rating of the components inside the power module, the case temperature must be kep t below 100 . the derating curves are determined from measurement s obtained in a test setup. dut position of air velocity probe and thermocouple 50mm / 2in air flow 15mm / 0.6in
