INTEGRATED CIRCUITS 74F538 1-of -8 decoder (3-state) Product specification IC15 Data Handbook 1989 Apr 06 Philips Semiconductors Philips Semiconductors Product specification 1-of-8 decoder (3-State) 74F538 DESCRIPTION The 74F538 decoder/demultiplexer accepts three address (A0 - A2) input signals and decodes them to select one of eight mutually exclusive outputs. A Polarity control (P) input determines whether the outputs are active Low or active High. The 74F538 has 3-State outputs, and a High signal on the Output Enables (OEn) inputs will force all outputs to the high impedance state. Two active High (E2, E3) and two active Low (E0, E1) inputs are available for easy expansion to 1-of-32 decoding with four packages, or for data demultiplexing to 1-of-8 or 1-of-16 destinations. For conditions shown as MIN or MAX, use the appropriate value under the recommended operating conditions for the applicable type. 2. All typical values are at VCC = 5V, Tamb = 25C. 3. Not more than one output should be shorted at a time. For testing IOS, the use of high-speed test apparatus and/or sample-and-hold techniques are preferable in order to minimize internal heating and more accurately reflect operational values. Otherwise, prolonged shorting of a High output may raise the chip temperature well above normal and thereby cause invalid readings in other parameter tests. In any sequence of parameter tests, IOS should be performed last. 1989 Apr 06 4 Philips Semiconductors Product specification 1-of-8 decoder (3-State) 74F538 AC ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS LIMITS SYMBOL PARAMETER TEST CONDITIONS Tamb = +25C VCC = +5.0V CL = 50pF, RL = 500 MIN tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPZH tPZL tPHZ tPLZ Propagation delay An to Qn Propagation delay E0 or E1 to Qn Propagation delay E2 or E3 to Qn Propagation delay P to Qn Output Enable time OE0 or OE1 to Qn Output Disable time OE0 or OE1 to Qn Waveform 1, 2 Waveform 1, 2 Waveform 1, 2 Waveform 1, 2 Waveform 3 Waveform 4 Waveform 3 Waveform 4 5.5 3.0 5.5 3.0 6.5 4.0 4.5 3.5 2.5 6.5 1.0 1.0 TYP 8.5 7.5 8.5 7.5 9.0 7.0 9.5 6.5 5.5 9.5 3.0 3.5 MAX 13.0 12.5 12.0 12.0 12.5 12.5 15.0 10.0 9.5 13.5 6.0 8.5 Tamb = 0C to +70C VCC = +5.0V 10% CL = 50pF, RL = 500 MIN 5.0 3.0 5.0 3.0 5.5 3.5 4.0 3.5 2.0 6.0 1.0 1.0 MAX 14.0 13.5 13.0 12.5 13.5 13.0 16.5 10.5 11.0 15.0 7.0 9.5 ns ns ns ns ns ns ns ns ns ns ns ns UNIT AC WAVEFORMS For all waveforms, VM = 1.5V.
